Beginning Meditation Class 2019
Insight meditation, also known as Vipassana, is an ancient practice of Buddhist meditation. The student trains to be aware of the mind/body process for the purpose of seeing clearly into the true nature of reality.

This class is not associated with the weekly Thursday evening Sangha meetings.
In keeping with Buddhist intentions these teachings are offered on a dana or generosity basis. There is no set fee for these classes and students may offer dana in appreciation for learning the Buddha’s teachings. Dana will be discussed during the course and is encouraged. If there is a fee it would be for renting space.
About the Teachers
Mark came to meditation as part of a 12 step recovery program in the mid 70’s. He has practiced various meditation techniques and traditions including Christian contemplative prayer, Zen, Tibetan, and Therevada Buddhism. In October, 2007 Mark met his current teacher and mentor, Susie Harrington at a 5 day silent meditation retreat near Moab Utah. From this point his relationship to meditation changed radically. Practice became more focused. Having a relationship with a teacher, emphasis on the vipassana or insight tradition of Buddhism, daily sitting, and retreat practice is now the foundation of his practice. As of November 2016 Mark has completed 160 days of silent retreat practice. He has completed the Dharma in Daily life program, and is currently enrolled in the Advance Practitioners Program, taught through Spirit Rock. He is co-founder of the SLC-Insight sangha, and has written the original curriculum for and taught the beginning meditation class offered through SLC-Insight.
Peggy has been practicing various forms of meditation for most of her adult life and has been involved with insight meditation since 2010. She has been studying in a more intense vipassana meditation program, called Dharma in Daily Life, for the past two years.
Bonnie has been practicing Vipassana (Insight) meditation since the mid 1980’s. She is a trained Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) instructor and an Interpersonal Mindfulness Program (Insight Dialogue) instructor. Bonnie practices Tai Chi and Qi Gong regularly and has been studying the Dharma through the Dharma in Daily Life program for the past two years. Bonnie is also training to become a Mindful Self-Compassion instructor and will be offering the Mindful Self-Compassion 8-week course in the spring.
Diane has been meditating with different traditions since 1970. She has studied Insight Meditation since 2003. She is currently participating in Susie Harrington’s Dharma in Daily Life. She is excited to share her love of meditation with others.
